"Based on the recently discovered diaries of Lionel Logue, The King's Speech recounts an inspiring real-life tale of triumph over adversity, when an Australian taught a British king with a crippling speech defect how to speak to his subjects."

MLK Day 5:30-8:00 p.m. Meeting Room

We will honor his memory with a special showing of the movie:
"The Color Purple"-Staring Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, Margaret Avery, and Oprah Winfrey.

The 1986 drama "The Color Purple" is based on a book of the same name by Alice Walker. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film is about the life and struggles of Celie (played by Goldberg), who eventually finds strength and courage in her friends. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards. Rated PG-13 and runs 2 1/2 hours. Light refreshments provided. No registration necessary. Seating is on a first-come, first seated basis.

Pages @ the Pub. Meets at Winston's Pub. This month's title is Among the Wonderful by Stacy Carlson. In the autumn of 1840, PT Barnum purchased an outdated museum on the corner of Broadway and Ann Street in Manhattan. He was a newcomer to the city and still unknown to the world, but with uncanny confidence and impeccable timing he transformed the dusty natural history collection into a great ark for public imagination. Among the Wonderful is a fictional account of this museum’s short, extraordinary reign as America’s most popular attraction.

Pages @ the Pub. Meets at Winston's Pub. This month's title is The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls. Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves, supporting one another as they weathered their parents' betrayals and, finally, found the resources and will to leave home.

A history of maple sugaring in Michigan is almost as old as the land itself. We invite you to learn the rich history, "sweet" traditions and production methods of sugar making in Michigan presented by Larry Haigh, President of the Michigan Maple Syrup Association.

Author Visit: Blaine L. Pardoe

Secret Witness by Blaine Pardoe, is the untold story of the 1967 bombing on main street in Marshall. This was one of Calhoun County's most infamous crimes, which will be discussed at this event with the author. Book signing available, light refreshments provided. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the average American gets six hours and 40 minutes of sleep at night; isn't it ironic that at night, when you let go of reality, your dreams try to awaken you to what you are overlooking in your life? Join us as Metaphysical Instructor Carli Ray explains how to remember and document your dreams, the meaning of your dreams and how you can use the information to improve your health, relationships and career.
